TO BEAVERTON

A few of my favourite places…

Welcome to Beaverton. The quaint, small-town on Lake Simcoe. We are a small but mighty town and I love to support local. While you’re roadtripin’ to The Sunflower Farm, maybe you should make a day of it and add a few extra stops along the way. Here is a list of a few of my favourite places to stop by, shop and enjoy wlahile you’re in town…

Check out our Instagram @thesunflowerfarm in our HIGHLIGHTS for a full review by yours truly.

Make sure you say hi to the local owners for me! We love to know where you are coming from so make sure you say The Sunflower Farm sent you! Have fun!

shop. local.

Support our local shops and small business owners by stopping in some of these nifty spots in Beaverton!

BEAVERTON HARBOURFRONT

A stroll along the pier to take in the views of Lake Simcoe is the icing on the cake of your visit to Beaverton. There’s nothing like taking in some fresh lake air, walk up the pier, watch your little ones on the playground and splash pad. And if you’re up for it - take a dip in Lake Simcoe!

SIMCOE STREET MARKET

LOVE THIS PLACE! A curated marketplace for everything local. A must see for anyone passionate about handmade, organic and sustainable goods.

BEAVER RIVER MUSEUM & OLD STONE JAIL

Ever wanted to see inside an old jail house? Located in downtown Beaverton, you can find a1850’s log house, a turn of the century brick house, and a mid 19th century stone jail, furnished with local artifacts. Donations are appreciated! *Closed due to COVID restrictions but interesting to walk by while downtown!

THE WELDER’S WIFE

A home, cottage & country decor store with a selection of antiques. Family owned and operated since 1965. Loads of nifty finds both old and new. I’ve known Jackie since I was 4 years old! Tell her I said hello!

SHIRLEY’S COUNTRY CLUTTER

Unique gift, home decor and exclusive Simcoe Life/Beaverton apparel in a quaint little store. I remember going into this store as a kid and eyeing up the fudge…yum.

DOWNTOWN BEAVERTON

Many more shops to explore right downtown. Take a stroll down our little main street and you’re sure to find something for everyone from an ice cream scoop to the hardware store and everything in between.

farm.fun.

There are plenty of farms to visit around the area. Here’s my two local favourites!

APPLEWOOD FARM & WINERY

The most wonderful family-run farm! You can meet the whole fam working behind this farm and winery as they have unique and award winning fruit wines, Cider and Meade for over 20 years. Farm events throughout the year! Great for the whole fam with an area for kids too! Don’t forget to say hi to anyone of them for me!

BROCK 2020 GARDENS

Your one stop spot for an organic market garden with a wide assortment of vegetables and huge variety of specialty tomatoes. Freshly picked waiting for you! Open 7 days a week. Located 10 min from The Sunflower Farm in Cannington - cash only farm stand.

food. drink. dessert.

A list of scrumptious food and treats for everyone. Nothing comes between me and a tasty treat!

THE COOL COW

Get in on the best scoop in town. Literally. A must stop for some local Kawartha Dairy ice cream while you stroll downtown Beaverton and listen in on the Beaverton gossip.

THE SHORTISS CAFE BAR

Just a hop, skip and jump down the road from the farm is a lovely café featuring gourmet coffee and tea, hygge lunches and scrumptious sweets. My favourites: jam-filled croissants and a dirty chai oat latte or iced beet-root chai . Mmmmm delicious! Loads of dairy alternatives for people like me. Say hi for me and pick me up some caffeine on your way to the farm please!

APPLEWOOD - WINERY

I have to give another shout out to Applewood Farm & Winery. It is THE spot to cheers with friends and family! With cider on tap, I’m here chatting away for a loooong time! Again tell them to pour me a glass as I’m on my way! Anyone up for a date? This is it.

UNDERGROUND BAKE SHOP

Yes to the love child!!! These tasty croissants are the perfect combo of a sweet and salty croissant in a muffin. I will literally eat a whole box of these. If you know, you know - they don’t last long so you have to be there early to snag one! So please bring me a love child croissant if you happen to be on your way to the farm!
